Tour Highlights
Experience an action-packed 7-day itinerary, exploring Råkevågen, Ramnenipa, Hardbakke, Bulandet, and Hersvikbygda. We even hike up Pollatinden to take in panaromic views of the whole archipelago.
Visit the far-out wonder of Utvær – Norway’s most westerly point – where we swim and walk to the famous lighthouse, as well as ‘Viking rock’, where Vikings sharpened their swords on the rocks before setting sail on raids.
Enjoy an evening cruise and keep an eye out for whales, dolphins, and seals!
Swim freely in the North Sea, weaving among the islands of Solund.
Explore an archipelago rich in Viking history, and sample the local island lifestyle and cuisine, including a variety of the freshest seafood.
Welcome to the wild Solund archipelago! Here we discover Norway’s westernmost islands, where thousands of islands, islets and skerries are strewn like pavestones across the sea. Linked by the local post boat, Solund’s island communities are remote, warm, and undeterred by edge-world life in close proximity to nature. Ferries run islanders to neighbouring shores for errands and friendly visits. While the coastal culture is largely defined by sheep farming, fishing, boating, and Viking heritage.
Explore beyond Norway’s fjords and spend 7 days in the far-flung western islands on land and sea. Dive into an exciting itinerary of hikes and swims, with mornings in the water, roaming the islands of Solund. Then while away your afternoon seeking out scenic lookouts on foot – we hike up Pollatinden to take in panaromic views of the whole archipelago – learning more about this region, which is rich in Viking history.
Just two hours from Bergen, Solund is the perfect destination for an island hopping adventure. You will be spoilt for endless trails to follow and waters teeming with marine life, where the powerful Sognefjord – Norway’s longest fjord – flows out into the North Sea. Stretching to the vast depths of the Atlantic, Solund’s waters are home to abundant fish species, like Arctic cod, salmon, and coalfish, as well deep-sea curiosities, including the ethereal ghost shark. There are larger animals to meet at sea among the kelp forests and cool water reefs as well – fingers crossed for sightings of whales, dolphins and seals too. Also, look out for puffins and sea eagles in the skies overhead!
Our base is at Solund Apartments Hotel near the mouth of Sognefjord, soaking up the atmosphere of Solund’s many islands, at the heart of an archipelago scribbled with waterways. The quiet roads and paths are perfect for hikers looking to be immersed in the incredible scenery – instantly identifiable as unique to this part of the world.
