Well it’s been over 15 years that I’ve been at SwimTrek, so it seems another world away! Prior to SwimTrek, I was travelling the world as a Mining Engineer spending many months in various isolated locations, including West Africa, Philippines and Australia. Ironically a lot of these places couldn’t have been any further away from any swimmable water. It was probably this that drove me to become an open water swimmer!
My passion is in discovering new swimming locations and I’m pleased to say that this is the focus of my role here as I have responsibility for SwimTrek by scouting out new trips and swims across the world.
This has to be my cross-continental swim from Europe to Asia (The Hellespont and Dardanelles) in Turkey back in 2000. It’s a swim that had significance in not only the geography (Europe-Asia) but also the history (Gallipoli and Troy), mythology (Leander & Hero) and even literary (Byron)! In addition the time it took (1 week) in getting all the permissions lined up also made the swim itself so special! This was a lifetime ambition fulfilled.
My next one. I love travelling the world and discovering new locations that swimmers may have never thought about swimming in. I am always searching for the next great swimming location.
My mother appeared in the James Bond film, Thunderball.
What’s better than working in something that you love doing?
A Sports Science degree led to numerous roles, from managing swimming pools to being an outdoor instructor, before leaving Australia in 1998 to pursue a career in Travel & Tourism. Having gained experience across many areas of the travel industry, from hike/ski guiding to being Commercial Director, whilst working for companies such as Neilson Active Holidays and British Airways Holidays, I wanted to combine my passion for the outdoors with the skills I'd developed professionally. All roads led to SwimTrek.
As General Manager my role is to work closely with all departments in developing and delivering our unique product that creates customer experiences that will last forever, whilst managing the long-term strategy of the business. Our vision is to continue to provide great swimming adventure holidays to more creative destinations, whilst continuing to improve our already high standard of customer service.
Finishing the swim leg, of the 2017 Ironman triathlon in Maastricht, 10 minutes quicker than I had hoped to. The buzz of the crowds and the excitement of the whole event helped to make sure that 12 months of focused training were well rewarded.
At SwimTrek we are creating many more innovative and unique open water swimming experiences and events, which means that my answer is likely to change regularly. For the moment, the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic in Croatia, has my vote, along with the great food and culture.
I won Silver medals in both pole vault and 1500m race walking, at the Victorian Athletics Championships in Australia as a 13 year old. (total competitors in the field were 3 & 5 respectively!!)
The opportunity to work with like-minded people dedicated to providing the very best holiday experience for our customers. To combine my own personal passion for sport and adventure travel, with a product that I truly believe in, is a gift. So much so, that I have to pinch myself every morning. This isn’t just a job. This is my passion.
After leaving Australia in 2010, I lived in Spain for for four years, where I founded and managed a company which offered fully-guided cycling holidays in various European destinations. After moving to the U.K. in 2014, I decided to make the move from the road to the water, which is how my life at SwimTrek began!
As Customer and Sales Manager, I am responsible for making sure that your SwimTrek experience is as unforgettable as possible. With the help of Ben and Eden, my aim is to make sure that every part of your trip runs perfectly smoothly, from start to finish.
Swimming in the crystal clear waters off the coast of Cinque Terre, Italy, on my first ever European holiday back in 2007!
I'm currently dreaming of joining our trip to Oman as soon as the opportunity presents itself!
My brother and I rode our bikes, live on the internet, 24 hours a day for two weeks (in alternating 8 hour shifts) in order to launch our cycling holidays business in 2012!
Good people, great trips and a chance to help people organise a holiday that they will never forget. Oh, and the 100-metre walk to the seafront for a quick lunchtime dip is a nice little bonus!

Establishing new health initiatives supporting existing programmes in Asia I have been responsible for the management of all in country operations for the respective organisation which I have supported.
Prior to this I used to manage environmental research and community development programmes on the African coast and in the Seychelles. I have a deep respect for the oceans and working with our environment, working with the local community in whichever location I have found myself in.
Here at SwimTrek I manage and organise all of our overseas operations at the numerous locations we work in. Simon is constantly on the hunt for new and exciting swims, its then my responsibility to organise the operational and logistical aspect of each of these trips and support our international guiding team to make sure everything comes off without a hitch.
Swimming with whale sharks in the Seychelles and being overwhelmed with the speed of such incredible creatures, them barely flicking their fins whilst there I am, sprint swimming simply in order to keep up with them.
A bit of a history fan, I love all of our swims that come with a story. The programmes in Alcatraz, The Bosphorus and the Hellespont really grab me for the intrigue surrounding them.
However, coming from an environmental background, some of the locations we work in are just ecologically incredible. The potential for personal experience with some of the ocean's most stunning sea life is something that really stays with you.
I once lived on an uninhabited island in an abandoned medical base for a year.
Combines my passion for exploring amazing locations with the opportunity to create memorable experiences for others.

Prior to that I travelled the world alternating seasons as a dive instructor and ski guide. Every now and then I also get flash backs of taking the 07:50 to Canon Street and a life as a city trader.
At SwimTrek I collect the dreams and imaginings of Simon and the team and work out how we can turn them into swimming experiences. I then hand these over to the Customer and Marketing teams to tell the world and our Operations team and Guides to make them reality.
Alone in the high Austrian alps, jumping into an ice covered lake, soon to discover why it's not a good idea to jump into an ice covered lake alone!
So many great locations. Swim coaching in Mallorca and cool Ibiza. Our honeymoon was in Baja with the Sealions and Mantas. Under sail in Greece and of course liveaboard in the Maldives. So many destinations I'd return to, but my favourite is always the unknown one.
Despite all my travels at heart I a home boy, quite content helping others swan off for amazing adventures.
Besides the Friday lunch sea swims it's knowing that everyone at SwimTrek, the team at HQ, our local partners in resort and every guide, cares so much about creating truly exceptional experiences that guests will confidently recommend to close friends and love ones.
After obtaining a Coach Education & Sports Development degree at Bath University I fell in love with swim coaching and passing on my knowledge to others within the sport. I have worked very closely with various swimming clubs around the UK for many years, as well as pursuing a career in retail management & wholesale within high profile brands such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Canterbury of New Zealand and Jack Wills.

Swimming the English Channel with the SwimTrek office was one of the most memorable moments to date for me as this was a childhood dream. I'm a sucker for the World iconic swims - Slowly ticking them off my list!

Before SwimTrek I worked for two summer seasons as a Brighton and Hove Beach lifeguard, and in the winter months I worked as a receptionist/membership advisor in the local leisure centre.
As Operations Assistant Manager I work closely with Reggie, the Operations Manager, in the planning of all our trips, recruitment and overall running of the department.
Doing my first open water sponsored swim. It was not a long distance (only 2.5km) but I raised loads of money and battled though large swell and, with the British summer being what it is, also heavy rain and hail. I loved every minute!
Montenegro. This trips is great for all abilities of open water swimming. You are based in a stunning location encased by a mountain landscape with beautiful water. Great local community within the town, which provides a vast variety of restaurants. Also being able to swim in Lake Skadar for a day is a real high point of the trip.
I have trained in dance since the age of three. Having done many shows in my time, the highlight for me was being given the chance to audition for Disney.
