Tour Highlights
Enjoy tropical swims in current assisted waters, peeking up at white sands and gliding over coral gardens popularised by ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau
Explore a portion of 12,000 hectares of protected sea and coastline, soaking up the second-largest coral reef system in the world! These waters are home to sea turtles and a colourful variety of fish, including parrotfish, wrasse, and butterflyfish.
Relax in the inclusive beachside resort of Occidental Cozumel and never stray too far from the call of the open sea.
Take on an iconic challenge, known to many swimmers around the world, and complete the popular Ironman® Cozumel swim route.
“The Sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.”
Jacques Cousteau
Isla Cozumel is an island of two worlds. It offers playgrounds for water-loving tourists beside a quieter and more traditional Caribbean culture. It also just happens to be fringed by some of the best scuba diving, freediving and swimming spots in the world.
There are over 40 popular dive sites around the island, which uncover coral reefs, sunken ships and limestone tunnels. Many of these discoveries have enticed explorers since the 1950s when they were popularised by the legendary Jacques Cousteau.
Swimmers can enjoy exploring the Great Mayan Reef as well. The barrier reef is so large it actually stretches along the coasts of four different countries: Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. In fact, this is the second-largest coral reef system in the world! Our swims will be out, away from the coast as we explore the reef system, so make sure you get your sighting practice in!
The island’s name is derived from the Mayan ‘Cuzamil’, or ‘island of swallows’ – a nod to the indigenous bird population. There are many different exciting species for you to discover both above and below water.
Who is this trip for?
This short escape is ideal for those who are looking to combine interesting swims whilst enjoying a relaxed resort or exploring a vibrant island.
Swimmers should have a basic understanding of open water swimming and be capable of completing the average swim distance and average daily swim distance (over the course of two swims) prior to the start of the trip.
The average swim distance is around 1.5km. The average daily swim distance is around 3km (split over a minimum of two swims). Please be aware the actual distance covered will be more during current assisted swims.
We have given this trip a ‘Leisurely’ grading designed for people who want to swim at a more relaxed pace and enjoy the scenery.
