About Our Trips

If you’re looking for something a bit different from the usual humdrum holiday, relish a challenge, like meeting new people, and want to explore some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, then we have most definitely got a trip for you?

It’s Not A Race, We Go At Your Pace

We’ve been doing this long enough now to know that everyone has their own pace in water, so we tailor the trips to make sure everyone goes at the pace they’re comfortable with, and has a great experience no matter what their ability – after all we want it to be an unforgettable experience, not a demanding chore!

Stroke For Stroke

To make sure everyone has the time of their lives we try as much as possible to put together groups with similar swimming abilities. So you really get the most out of your SwimTrek experience we recommend being able to swim non-stop for more than 1.2 miles (2 km) in a pool. Check out our Training Plan to really get up to speed.

Types for Types

We’ve spent years searching the globe for the best spots for you to enjoy, and it has been tough but someone had to do it! All that ”hard work” has pays off so you can see the world the way it should be seen.

With a Great Escape (SwimTrek Classics) set in some of the most beautiful locations around. From Baja Mexico to the Montenegrin Riviera, and many destinations in between, these flagship holidays are the ultimate adventure for swimmers of all abilities, who just want that experience (or two) of a lifetime.

Want to experience some scenic splendour but can’t commit the time for a SwimTrek Classic? Then try one of our Short Escapes – with destinations like the stunning Slovenian Alps to the exotic Vieques island, off Puerto Rico, you’ll be signing up for the next trip before you’ve dried off!

Go Shorter or Longer

We think of our Short Swims itineraries as shorter but still perfectly formed! If you want more balance between land and water, then our short swims will be right up your alley… stream?! You still get to experience the beautiful scenery of some amazing destinations from the sea, but you don’t swim as far as our SwimTrek Classic itineraries. There’s also plenty of time to explore the shore by foot, chill out at the beach, or do a spot of retail therapy if that’s your thing!

Alternatively if you can maintain a steady pace and measure a great SwimTrek in feet or meterage then our Long Swims itineraries will be the perfect getaway to satisfy your need to explore!

All Strokes Welcome

While front crawl is the most widely used stroke on the trips, all strokes are welcome - even butterfliers!

Whatever your swimming prowess there’s always room for improvement, so our guides will help you with technique analysis and, on many trips, video playback

If you prefer more structured open water Swim coaching, SwimTrek run Open Water Swim Coaching Camps for all abilities. More information can be found here

We Are Very Accommodating

After enjoying the beautiful vistas, tranquil waters and nature at its best, we know from experience that a bit of R&R at the end of the day is key to a great holiday – so we’ve made sure the places we stay are comfortable and of good quality. The locations where we stay offer so much than just somewhere to sleep, they are undoubtedly an essential part of the tour.

Group Size

At SwimTrek we make sure our groups are small enough for everyone to feel safe and special, but large enough for there to be a good mix of people from all walks of life, whether you’re travelling solo, as a pair or in a swim group. We have a set maximum of clients on every trip. Just check out the tour page for the maximum group size for that particular trip.

The group will be split into a maximum of swim groups, based on speed, with each group being accompanied by their own safety vessel/escort.

Boat and Safety Support

There is simply no safer way for you to swim in open water than within a SwimTrek group. With our qualified and experienced guides and sufficient safety support boats, we will look after you every stroke of the way and work with you on getting the most out of the trip.

Safety and support are paramount to us at SwimTrek, typically we use the following safety support to make sure all our trips go according to plan:

· Qualified swimming guides

· A local qualified Boat Pilot who is familiar with the area

· A motorised main support vessel with all necessary equipment on board, except on lakes and rivers where motorised boats are not permitted, we use canoe support

· Support inflatables or other watercraft crewed by your SwimTrek guides and qualified safety support crew.

For specific information about your trip refer to the Trip's 'Trip Information' tab.

Please note that boat support is subject to change without notice and cannot be guaranteed.

SwimTrek Guides

Without our SwimTrek Guides we wouldn’t exist, and without our guides we wouldn’t be the award winning swimming tour operator that we are today, and without our guides our customers wouldn’t come back for more tours every year – but they do, and we’ve got our guides to thank for that.

Obviously, the views, locations, and challenge in itself are a plus, but our SwimTrek guides really make it more than just a holiday – they make it an experience of a lifetime.

They are some of the most experienced open water swimmers around the world, and have done everything from solo English Channel crossings, Lake Zurich, Cook Strait, North Channel and Rottnest Island – and their passion for open water swimming is contagious, so watch out, as you may be unexpectedly signing up for that long distance swim you only dreamed about!

All our guides are beach lifeguard, powerboat and fist aid qualified. many are also qualified swim coaches too.

SwimTrek HQ

For all our amazing SwimTrek tours to happen, and to make sure you have the time of your life, some of us need to be stuck behind a desk in Brighton, UK. So, where the guides get all the glory, think of the head office team as the wind beneath their tanned and toned wings!

The SwimTrek HQ team not only create the magic but are also there for you through the process of choosing and booking your trip. They are also there every step of the way supporting the SwimTrek Guides and our local partners from the moment you arrive on location until your SwimTrek comes to a close.

Travel Insurance

It is a requirement of joining any SwimTrek trip that you must have travel insurance which covers you for all activities that you will be taking part in during your trip. Your policy must also cover medical treatment, including repatriation, ambulance, air ambulance and helicopter rescue services.
