If you told your friends you were considering swimming the English Channel, would they think you've gone mad? Well, at SwimTrek we understand completely, especially as some of us have done it, or an equally long distance equivalent - and this trip will show you how.

Based in the waters of the Mediterranean, our expert swim coaches will work with you for a week of intensive long distance open water training, alongside video analysis to improve your technique and performance above and below the water. You will be fully supported throughout the week, because we truly understand the challending nature of a long distance swim!

You don't have to be aiming for the Channel - these trips are designed with all serious swimmers in mind, especially if you're training for any open water events in the upcoming season.

Because you will be swimming for long periods of time, your rest is catered for at the comfortable, clean, self-catering apartments of Ferrera Beach in Cala d'Or.

Day 1

Saturday:

We meet at the hotel for a pre-trip safety briefing and to discuss in detail the plans for the week ahead, focusing on the swim schedule and seminar plan.

Day 2

Sunday Daily Swim Time: up to 3hrs

We hold an initial swim in Cala Ferrera Bay. This is an ideal time to get used to the conditions and temperature. Following this, we head to the pool to film your stroke under the water using specialised video equipment. In the afternoon we have another swim. Later in the evening we will meet in the hotel to view the film, offering stroke analysis for each person, followed by our first seminar.

Day 3

Monday Daily Swim Time: up to 5hrs

This is a big day as we fit in two long swim sessions heading towards the Mondragó National Park. Distances will vary according to each swimmer and their training goals, and we will also focus on your feeding plan suggesting alterations if required.

Day 4

Tuesday Daily Swim Time: One six hour swim

The precise swim location will be based on the current weather, so for Channel soloists it's a mandatory pre-qualifier and for all others it's a chance to see what you can do! We will provide full safety boat cover and nutritional support during your swim. Following this we will work with you individually on assessing the outcome.

Day 5

Wednesday Daily Swim Time: up to 2 hours

This is a day to swim, a day to focus on your technique, a day to relax! The day is planned with an easy but important recovery swim after yesterday's efforts, and a chance to chill on a boat. Time will be set aside for a full Q&A session to cover any points not previously answered during the week.

Day 6

Thursday Swim Time: up to 1 hour

There's time for one more morning swim session before the trip ends. We swim as a group and it is an excellent time to work on your technique and afterwards to swap information with other guests and guides from your tour.

As you can see from the itinerary, many of the swims are based in bays which allows for greater safety and enables swimmers to swim at their own speed.

Marine Life Caveat

In the event you are stung by jellyfish, in most cases you can normally carry on swimming. However, if you do have a problem, we can assess/treat the affected area immediately on the escort boat. If this area continues to cause discomfort and/or becomes infected during or after the tour, you should seek medical attention immediately explaining the nature of the cause. Please ensure you contact us prior to booking if you suffer from Anaphylaxis.

General Caveat

For obvious safety reasons we rely on decent weather conditions when carrying out any swims. As a consequence, open water swimming does require an inherent degree of on-trip flexibility, so required changes in the planned itinerary will not be uncommon and will undoubtedly add to the uniqueness of each tour.

Trip Schedule

Start Point: Ferrera Beach Apartments, Cala Ferrera

Start Time: 17:00 on Day 1

Finish Point: Ferrera Beach Apartments, Cala Ferrera

Trip Information

Seminars

These are an important part of the trip and areas covered include:

-Mental preparation

-Feeding & hydration

-Stroke technique and analysis

-Ongoing training

-Hypothermia & fatigue

-Other long distance swims

Swim Distances

These will vary depending on the individual and will be tailored according to the swim being trained for.

*Schedule *

The initial discussion on the Saturday evening between you and the guides will help determine your recommended daily swimming time. This can vary between swimmers and in many cases it is often exceeded! The tour is an ideal opportunity to swim some big distances and gain expert knowledge both during the day and at the evening seminars. For safety reasons and to enable swimmers to swim at their own speed, our distance swimming often takes place in bays.

We recommend using Skyscanner as a good starting point when looking at flights.

The fastest way from Mallorca Airport to the Ferrera Beach Apartments is by taxi costing approximately €70 (up to 4 people).

We only recommend this option if you have plenty of time and don't mind waiting around, as occasionally the shuttle transfers can be unreliable and can take up to 3 hours. • I absolutely loved this trip - it was fantastic value for money and great fun. I also learnt a lot - though I'm a bit of a swimming rookie so that's not surprising! I can't overemphasise how good the 4 guides were - my advice would be never to let them go!

  • ìIf you are planning a channel swim no matter whether a relay or solo then this coaching trip is a must do. I have come back home with loads to think about and consider and feel much more positive about my challenge ahead.

    Lisa North - 2014
  • I think the trip is excellent. The timed swims cut out any 'competitive' elements and the guides provide a balance of encouragement and challenge. I didn't expect to do either a 6 hour swim or sign up for a channel solo, but ended up doing both. Thanks to all the guides for their enthusiasm and dedication.
