Job Vacancy - Safety, Risk & Assurance Manager

Who we are

SwimTrek is a leading specialist tour operator, creating unforgettable swimming holidays in some of the world’s most beautiful locations. From the Mediterranean to the Caribbean, our trips attract customers from all over the world who are passionate about travel, adventure and the outdoors.

Safety, Risk and Assurance Manager

SwimTrek operates open-water swimming trips and events across ~65 destinations, working with local boats, hotels and transport providers. We’re appointing a Safety, Risk and Assurance Manager to build and embed a coherent SwimTrek Safety Management System by end-2026, aligned to recognised adventure tourism standards (ISO 21101/21102/21103 amongst others), and to deliver a robust HQ-led assurance programme.

This is not a purely administrative incident-processing role. You will set the system, coach the business to run it, and provide independent assurance through audits, learning reviews, and clear governance.

What you’ll deliver

  • A structured SwimTrek SMS aligned to ISO 21101 and BS8848 principles (policy, risk management, operational control, emergency preparedness, competence, monitoring, review).
  • A risk-based destination and supplier assurance programme (remote checks + field audits) covering marine operations, accommodation and transport.
  • A consistent incident learning loop (triage, investigation standards, corrective actions, trend reporting, management review).
  • Clear stop-activity escalation that protects guests and staff while enabling safe operations.

Key responsibilities

SMS build & implementation
  • Design and operationalise the SwimTrek SMS using PDCA (Plan–Do–Check–Act), integrating existing artefacts (risk assessments, TMDs, EAPs, guide competence standards, product development criteria and partnership agreements) across the range of SwimTrek products (holiday packages, races, events).
Assurance, audits and supplier controls
  • Review, triage and respond to audits and supplier controls for risk mitigation across, boats, hotels and transport providers; ensure evidence-based corrective actions and follow-up.
Incident management (governance and escalation)
  • Oversee high-severity incident response support and investigation quality; ensure learning is captured and applied. Support oversight of all escalated incidents and ensure minor incidents are appropriately resolved.
Training & competence
  • Maintain a competence framework for guides/leaders and relevant HQ roles; ensure training/drills are scheduled and evidenced.
New products, races and events
  • Provide safety input into product development and events: risk workshops, control standards, and go/no-go thresholds.

About You

Essential experience

  • Demonstrable experience implementing and embedding a safety management system in a multi-site, operational environment (travel/adventure/marine/outdoor highly desirable).
  • Strong capability in audits/assurance, incident investigation, and turning learning into operational controls.
  • Credible stakeholder leadership: can influence, coach, and challenge constructively.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Familiarity with ISO-style management systems (e.g., internal auditor qualification or equivalent).
  • Water safety / marine operations background (helpful for credibility, but not a substitute for SMS delivery capability).
