Swim Across America

Join Swim Across America in their fight against cancer!

We’re delighted to partner this year with Swim Across America, Inc., raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming-related events. Founded in 1987, Swim Across America has raised over $100 million so far to fight cancer!

Why Should I donate to Swim Across America?

For every dollar we grant, our beneficiaries have been able to secure three or more dollars in new funding they might otherwise have not received. Our scientific advisory committee of MDs and PhDs have decades of clinical trials and research experience. They invest significant time reviewing and recommending project ideas that have the best promise of collecting vital data that researchers need when applying for other sources of cancer funding. Donors must know that when we make a grant 100% of the SAA grant must be applied to the approved clinical trial or research project and not other things such as overhead and buildings.

How To Get Involved?

There are several ways to raise money through our Swim Across America programs in partnership with SwimTrek:

SAA My Way Programs

The SAA My Way programs allow swimmers to use any SwimTrek trip to create an opportunity for raising money. Discover some recent examples of incredible fundraising activities, like Julia Brookshire's Hellespont crossing in 2024.

To learn more about this program, or if you would like some registration support, please contact Craig and Marlys.

Give Back Programs

SwimTrek is delighted to offer a portion of the cost of a group trip back to Swim Across America.

SwimTrek is committed to social responsibility and community engagement. By aligning ourselves with an organisation such as Swim Across America we hope to provide a tangible difference in the lives of others. Swim Across America plays a crucial role in driving progress in cancer research and bringing hope to individuals and families affected by cancer.

The percentage return will be 5-10% of the cost of the trip, depending on the size of the group.

swimtrekkers SUSAN HELMRICH: "SwimTrek has become our first choice when traveling. We have been to so many amazing places in Europe, Asia, South and Central America and the Caribbean. Our plan is to go on two SwimTrek’s each year. There is nothing quite like it. The swims are incredible, the guides are wonderful, and it is so great to be surrounded by like-minded swimmers from all over the world. For us, it is the only way to travel. I have tried to attach each of my SwimTreks to SAA My Way and to raise money for Team Susan Survives! and Swim Across America. It’s a win-win!"
Blissful spot for a dip Swim Across America is the sequel to the triumph of Jeff Keith’s Run Across America. Jeff Keith had lost his right leg to cancer when he was a teenager. In the spring of 1984, Jeff and his childhood friends Matt Vossler and Hugh Curran were college graduates. The three of them put their careers on hold to take on a near impossible feat of running across the United States. The journey started on Jun 4, 1984 in Boston and finished eight months later in Los Angeles with a call from President Ronald Reagan wishing them congratulations. The run raised one million dollars for the American Cancer Society. Learn more about Swim Across America, Inc.."
Blissful spot for a dip JULIA BROOKSHIRE: "Through a partnership with Swim Across America and Swim Trek, I have been given an entry into the Hellespont cross-continental swim in August of this year. The Hellespont is the world's oldest open water swim crossing the strait of the Dardanelles (connecting the Aegean and Black Seas) in Turkey between the continental boundary of Asia and Europe. The swim is roughly a 5k with a strict cutoff time as this is the world's busiest shipping lane and it needs to be closed for the swim event. My goal is to swim the Hellespont and raise $50,000 for research and ultimately bring us closer to a cure."
