Equipment to bring along with you
In addition to “normal” daily clothes, you will need to bring the following:
- Sweater/Fleece
- Swimming Costume (2 of)
- Towel
- Swimming Goggles (2 of)*
- Sun Hat
- Walking shoes/sandals
- Small Daypack
- Waterproof Sun Cream
- Aqua Shoes / Sandals (which you don’t mind getting wet!)
- Waterproof jacket
*It is advisable to have a pair of tinted goggles to cater for the sun’s glare off the sea during swims.
Swim Hats, Flippers, Rashvests and Wetsuits
Please note that SwimTrek will supply swim hats. We will have a limited supply/range of flippers, rash vests and wetsuits available on the trip, but we cannot guarantee sizes for all. If you feel that you may need flippers, rashest and/or a wetsuit during the trip we would recommend that you bring these with you in order to maximise your enjoyment of the trip.
Group Size
Up to a maximum of 12 people, with 2 swimming guides, local boat pilot and 2 motorised boat escorts.
Practical Information
Getting There
The are a number of options when travelling to Alonissos and the two simplest are to fly in to either Skiathos or Volos and then catch the ferry to Alonissos. For ferry information please view the www.openseas.gr. Please note the ferry times for the summer season are usually visible from April onwards.
Flying to Skiathos
From May to October there are charter flights from the UK and other European airports to Skiathos, part of the Sporades Island group. From Skiathos you take a ferry/hydrofoil (1½ hours) to Alonissos.

From May to October there are charter flights from the UK and other European airports to Volos. From Volos you take a ferry/hydrofoil (3½ hours) to Alonissos.

You could also fly into Athens
Travel from Athens
From Athens you can either catch an internal flight to Skiathos or take a bus to Aghios Konstantinos (2 hours) on the mainland followed by a hydrofoil to Alonissos.
The Paradise hotel is a short walk from Patitiri Harbour and a map can be seen on the hotel’s website here.
Accommodation
We stay at the 3* Hotel Paradise, set in Patitiri near the harbour. Their is direct sea access in front of the hotel. Accommodation is based on twin-share and en-suite facilities. Single Supplement availability is available but may be limited.
Meals
All breakfasts and lunches are included. Dinners are not included as this gives the ability to choose when, where and with whom you would like to dine.
Extra Expenses
You should bring extra money with you to cover such items as entertainment, dinner, souvenirs, etc. The local currency is the Euro (€). The average price of a 2 course dinner on Alonissos is €15-€20.
Passports and Visas
You require a full passport, that should be valid for 6 months beyond the expected length of stay. You should check if you require a visa. Most nationalities including EU, US, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand citizens do not require a visa to enter Greece. Visa regulations do change. Please check!
Vaccinations
There are currently no essential vaccination requirements for the Sporades, but it is advisable to check about 8 weeks before you travel. You should ensure that your tetanus and polio are up to date.
