The Isles of Scilly
Itinerary and Map
Day One
After your arrival and adequate time for a rest, we meet at our accommodation and go on an afternoon training swim. In the evening we meet for drinks and a pre-trip briefing in which we discuss in detail the plans for the coming week.
Day Two
We walk across St Mary’s to its northernmost point, Bar Point where we begin our swim to the island of St Martin’s. It can be shallow and there is a huge selection of plant life to look at on the crossing. On arrival in Higher Town we walk across the island to the Seven Stones public house where we stop for lunch. The afternoon is taken up with the small crossing to Tean before heading back to St Mary’s.
Day Three
We meet the boat and ride to Tean when we start our swim to Tresco, swimming in-between the islands of Northwethel and Foremans. We trek across Tresco and arrive at Cromwell Castle on its western shore. From here we swim to Bryher passing Hangman Island on the way. After lunch on the beach, we traverse Bryher and explore its wild and rugged coastline before our final swim of the day to the sand island of Samson.
Day Four
A rest day from our island hopping. We go and visit the remote Eastern Isles and go swimming with the seals. A truly unique experience. The afternoon is spent with swimming technique tuition and video analysis in the local open air pool.
Day Five
This day features the longest swim of the week from Samson to St Agnes but we try and use the tide to our advantage as we come into St Agnes. We then spend a few hours walking around St Agnes and enjoying lunch with a view of Bishops Rock lighthouse in the distance. We then swim from St Agnes to Porthcressa beach on St Mary’s and so ends our circumnavigation of the Scillies.
Day Six
We have a spare morning, to allow for bad weather earlier on in the week, delaying our itinerary. Alternatively, the time is yours to maybe visit the Gardens of Tresco or look further around Hugh Town. We will be back in time at St Mary’s to catch the ferry back to the mainland.
Caveat
Swim Event Type: Swimming in the sea is a fantastic experience, but you need to be aware of potential problems. Marine life such as jellyfish, sea urchins and coral could be present on some of the swims, but we will work on minimising. If stung by jellyfish you can normally carry on swimming. However if you do have a problem we can treat you on one of the escort boats. You should contact us prior to booking if you suffer from Anaphylaxis. You should seek medical attention if you develop any infection following contact with the above. For obvious safety reasons we rely on decent weather conditions when carrying out any swims. As a consequence, open water swimming does require an inherent degree of on-trip flexibility, so required changes in the planned itinerary will not be uncommon and will undoubtedly add to the uniqueness of each tour.
