| Monthly Trip Focus: The River Thames
| | | The cleanest major river of the UK, The Thames begins
its long and winding journey just south of Cheltenham
and goes through leafy Gloucestershire villages before
entering Oxford, Abingdon, Henley, Hampton Court and
eventually London.Upriver (where we swim) the Thames is an idyllic world
of flowing water and tree-lined banks, with abundant
wildlife to keep us company as we travel down this
historic waterway. A classic Thames Narrowboat acts
as our escort as well as doubles for our overnight
accomodation. This therefore gives us the oppurtunity
to choose when and where we stop along the way.
Surely the ultimate way to see this classic river. More Information on the Thames swým...

| "The Swimmer" by John Cheever
| | | Remember Burt Lancaster swimming from pool to pool in
the film "The Swimmer". The film was based on the
classic short story by John Cheever. Set in an affluent
Connecticut district, the story follows a bored
suburbanite, Ned Merrill, who one summer morning
decides to swim home via the pools of his wealthy
friends. His journey is one of embarrassment, humiliation
and passion."He seemed to see, with a cartographer's eye, that
string of swimming pools, that quasi-subterranean
stream that curved across the county....The day was
beautiful and it seemed to him that a long swim might
enlarge and celebrate its beauty." Read The full short story...
