Where did you take your SwimTrek hat this year?
This was the question posed to us by David & Sandra as they took their SwimTrek hats to the ITU World Age Group Triathlon Championships in Beijing, though of course there they had to wear the official ITU official hat for the race however, they did sneek a rather familiar one along too!
"It all began last January, when we decided to try and qualify. We also took part in a Radio Four programme as a result. By dint of luck, and the fact that were no other competitors in our age group, we both qualified for the Championships. Our son declared on air that he would ensure we made it to Beijing. So off we went in September, and raced the old Olympic course along with 2500other athletes from around the world. We didn't win, but did finish. I was 12th in my age group; Sandra was 6th in hers. Despite all the training through Swim Trek, we did not do well in our swim - it was the first "wetsuit banned" race we had entered, and the resulting effect on our body positions, power and time was considerable. Our next Swim Trek holiday will have to be warm water - we have our eye on Mexico!"
It would be great to hear your stories about where you have taken your SwimTrek hat as it would be lovely to include them in our future newsletters. If you could send them to us atinfo@swimtrek.com along with a picture will try to include them as soon as we can.

INSPIRATIONAL SWIMMER - PHILIPPE CROIZON

After conquering the English Channel last year in an amazing 13 hours and 23 minutes, this inspiring 'limbless' Frenchman has certainly not finished with swimming. The BBC met with Philippe to see how they plan to achieve their goal of crossing four other straits between continents. Watch it here...
In 2012 he will attempt to cross the icy Bering Strait between Alaska and Russia; the Gulf of Aqaba between Asia and Africa, the Gibraltar Strait between Spain and Morocco.

WORLD'S GREATEST SWIMS
ANGTHONG MARINE PARK, THAILAND
Continuing our series of 'top places to swim outdoors in the world', we look at the Angthong National Marine Park. This inspirational series was published by MSN earlier this year.
Many regard the Angthong National Marine Park as the most beautiful island grouping in the Gulf of Thailand, which is saying something given the places to choose from.
Koh Mae Koh island, with its limestone mountains and sheer cliffs, is just one jewel in the crown, but what a jewel. The long sandy beach of Ao Na Thap, in the south of the island, is an idyllic spot for a swim in soothingly warm waters.

HONG KONG REVIVES HARBOUR SWIM RACE
This month saw the revival of one of the World's oldest iconic swims the Hong Kong Harbour Swim Race. Approximately 33 years after it was banned in 1978 following the discovery of raw sewage and harmful toxins, swimmers of all ages immersed themselves beneath the waves and took part and it was 18-year-old Ling Tin-yu, a member of the Hong Kong swimming team who won the overall title.
