CONGRATULATIONS!

In the last month, three well publicised swims have been completed. Firstly there was Roger Allsopp who at the age of 70 years and 4 months became the oldest person to swim the English Channel.
This was hotly followed by 'The Swim' celebrity relay team and finally by David Walliams who completed his Thames Swim challenge for Sport Relief just last week.
All these achievements were inspired and undertaken for charity and you can still support them by visiting their websites Roger Allsopp - Just Giving , The Swim & Sport Relief

NEW OPEN WATER SWIMMING BOOK
"The Story of Swimming - A social history of bathing in Britain" by Susie Parr is about to be published. The book is illustrated with woodcuts, engravings, cartoons, paintings and photographs.
To win a signed copy, all you need to do is answer this simple question "How far did David Walliams swim on his recent challenge?"
Then email your name and address to info@swimtrek.com with 'The Story of Swimming Competition' in the subject line and two entries will be drawn at random. Or if you don't want to wait, then you can pre-order your copy HERE.
The competition closes midnight 16th October 2011 when two winners will then be picked at random from those entered. For SwimTrek terms and conditions of entry, please visit the SwimTrek website

WORLD'S GREATEST SWIMS SERIES - RIVER VOLTA, GHANA
Continuing our series of 'The top places to swim outdoors in the world'! chosen by Simon Murie, we look at the River Volta. This inspirational series was published by MSN.
A great swim in crystal-clear waters, the Volta is one of West Africa's largest rivers. Near to Ghana's border with Benin, at the mouth of the river lies a group of small islands close to the town of Ada.
The waters here are slightly saline, which makes it too salty for the fresh water crocodiles and not salty enough for the sharks lurking farther out to sea. It's possible to island hop across the entire river, visiting four or so islands along the way.
