Welcome to SwimTrek's December Newsletter, where
you will find a selection of interesting stories about
SwimTrek as well as open water swimming in general.

SwimTrek launches Virgin Islands Tours
We are pleased to announce the launch of
SwimTrek's first ever trips to the Caribbean.
The trips will take place in the Virgin Islands which
offer some of the best open water swimming
anywhere in the world. Commencing in March 2007
this trip would undoubtedly be the highlight of any
swimmers year.
As the temperature in the Northern Hemisphere
starts to drop, swimming outdoors might not be to
everybody's liking. In the linked article, the medical
benefits of exposure to the cold are explored.
A few months ago BBC Radio's Excess Baggage travel
programme featured an excellent programme on open
water swimming and why people do it. On the linked
website you have the opportunity to listen again.
London Fields Lido lives again! First opened in April
1932 then closed during the Second World War, re-
opened in 1951, closed again in 1986 and now
reopened after a £2.5million refurbishment from
Hackney Council. Money well spent!
SwimTrek guide and San Francisco resident Gary
Emich has currently swum Alcatraz more times than
anyone, a staggering 434 times, as of this week! In
the attached article Gary explains some of the myths
behind this iconic swim as well as highlighting the
preparations required for it.
Open water swimming in crstal clear waters is a great
